What’s On TV - Love is in the Portwenn Air

The Doc’s marriage to Louisa may be on the rocks when we return to the fictional Cornish village of Portwenn this year. However, love is in the air for favourites Al Large and Morwenna Newcross.
PC Joe Penhale, meanwhile, has his head turned by newcomer, Janice.
Best pals on and off screen, Robyn Addison (Janice) and Jessica Ransom (Morwenna), explained more when we caught with them on the Doc Martin set earlier this year.
Jessica Ransom, who plays the doctor’s receptionist, reveals: “Morwenna is now living with Janice, as opposed to Al (Joe Absolom), which was a disaster in the last series. But there’s still a little spark between them!”
She adds: “Morwenna hasn’t yet been fired for surliness in relation to the Doc’s grumpiness!
“Morwenna starts to do some operations, which is quite exciting! She manages to save someone’s life on a lifeboat in the first episode – with her friend Janice, who isn’t as medically astute!
The star of the Cornish medical drama gives us a hint of what to expect from the next series, and reveals a soft spot for lemurs

What is your guilty TV pleasure?
I never thought that I would be saying this, but the programmes I really enjoy on TV are those I can watch with my wife and daughter. I love sitting down as a family to watch Britain’s Got Talent, Modern Family or Miranda.
Who takes charge of the remote control in your house?
My wife. I don’t even know where it is. I’m not allowed anywhere near it.
What would you delete from your wife or daughter’s watchlist?
I can’t stand my daughter watching America’s Next Top Model – it sends out the most appalling message to young girls.

Over the last couple of years it has become a staple feature of American public broadcasting — the second episode of the new season premieres locally tonight on KCET — and has been widely available online, offered free to subscribers of Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus.
