In season 2, Dr Martin Ellingham is becoming increasingly grumpier as he is now well and truly a part of the Portwenn community (whether he likes it or not). Following the bad breath debacle at the end of last season, things seem rocky between Martin and Louisa. His surliness is further aggravated by the arrival of Danny, the ex-flame of Louisa who seems set on becoming more than just friends again. Martin senses the competition when he learns that ‘there is a history there’. Poor Martin’s life is complicated even more as he tries to adjust to new receptionist Pauline, listening to Mark Mylow’s insecurity when it comes to the ladies, being part of the panel assessing Louisa’s application for the Head’s position at the school, and still having to deal with Bert and his issues - not to mention the return of that pesky dog!
